At 8:00 AM on May 28, 2022, the JRCC annual meeting (2022) commenced as scheduled. Eleven scholars from various universities and research institutions in the United States, China, and Taiwan delivered presentations and engaged in discussions. The topics covered diverse aspects of Chinese Christian history, theology, biblical studies, and comparative religious studies.
Prior to the conference, convener Professor Xiao Qinghe delivered brief opening remarks, expressing gratitude for the strong support and participation of the editorial board members.
From 8:00 to 10:00 AM, the first session was chaired by Professor Wang Xuesheng. Professor Liu Ping from Fudan University presented first with his paper titled “From the Yangtze River to the Pichai River: Martin Luther and the Development of Higher Theological Education in China—Selected Remnants of Chinese Church Universities.” Next, Dr. Xi Wang from Peking University spoke on “On Wagner's Late Views of the Nation and Religion.” Third, Dr. Sun Lianghui from the University of Notre Dame presented “Hellenistic Kingship in The Pastoral Epistles.” Finally, Dr. Li Ling from the Center for Christian and Chinese Studies in Los Angeles delivered “From ‘Sacredness’ to ‘Utopia’: A Brief Account of Christianity's Historical Trajectory Toward Communism.”
From 10:00 to 11:00 AM, the second session was chaired by Professor Peng Rui. Xiao Qinghe from Shanghai University delivered the first presentation titled “Self-Authentication of the True Doctrine: An Initial Exploration of the New Orthodoxy Theory in Catholicism during the Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasties.” Next, Song Huaishi from Hubei Minzu University spoke on “My Witness to the Youth Fellowship.” The third speaker was Professor Nie Li from South-Central University for Nationalities, presenting “The Influence of China's Experiences on Female Missionary Field.”
Over 90 participants joined online in the morning session, including scholars like Yuan Zhaohui from World Religions Studies, who engaged in interactive discussions with the presenters.
From 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, the third session was chaired by Xiao Qinghe. Professor Peng Rui from Nanchang University presented “From ‘Hundred Schools of Thought’ to ‘Exclusive Veneration of Confucianism’: An Attempt at Interpretation from a Social Cooperation Perspective”; Researcher Yu Qiang from Shanghai University spoke on “The ‘Local Church’ Movement and the Localization of Chinese Christianity: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Ni Tuosheng's Passing”; Professor Wang Xuesheng from Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan presented “The Third Phase of Historical Jesus Research: A Case of Obsessive Deviation”; the final speaker was Dr. Xie Yilin from Jinan University with “The Triple Subversive Narrative of the Wedding at Cana.”
Over 50 participants joined online in the afternoon. Following their presentations, the speakers engaged in interactive discussions with online attendees.
From 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, an internal meeting was held where editorial board members discussed journal editorial matters.
